Colquitt County Leaders Considering Tax Increase

| June 4, 2013

budget moneyA one-mil tax increase could be in the works in Colquitt County, as the Board of Commissioners is attempting to lower the county budget before a July 1st deadline.

Interim County Administrator Tom Berry said with the current numbers, the board is set up for failure- nearly 50 percent of the county’s revenue comes from taxes, of which the tax base is not growing.

The one-mil increase would bring in an extra $900,000 per year to the county. Also on the table is a $300,000 cut to county employee healthcare costs that would increase deductibles and change coverage options.

The board will host a public hearing Tuesday at 6:30pm prior to their regular meeting at 7pm.
