Prine Refutes Coroner’s Claim Of ‘Compromised’ Johnson Investigation

| May 2, 2013

Lowndes ext 5Valdosta, GA- The twists and turns into the death investigation of 17-year old Kendrick Johnson continue. In a statement to the Valdosta Daily Times on Thursday, Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine said that, despite statements to the contrary, ‘no law-enforcement officer touched that body until the coroner got there and examined it.’

Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson, however, told WCTV back in April that “The body had been moved. The scene, in my opinion, had been compromised.”

Prine told the VDT that at the time Johnson’s body was found he was out of town, but went “straight to the scene” when he returned later in the afternoon. The Sheriff’s recent statements to the Times come on the heels of a planned Saturday rally in which the Rev. Al Sharpton will speak.

A GBI spokesperson told WVGA/Valdosta Today that the final autopsy and toxicology reports in the case will ‘hopefully be released late next week.’

Has anyone stopped to think why the opinion of the coroner would be more highly valued than the word of the sheriff and his investigators AND the GBI investigators? I believe there were questions around his immediate arrival and judgement, which was disproved in the Jasmine Benjamin case at VSU which also made it to national news. How quickly the community forgets.

  2. Anika Perry says:

Why would Coroner Watson come out and say the scene was comprised if he was going to contradict himself later? Prine is not to be trusted based on this case (Kendrick Johnson) and his previous wrongful firings back in 2012. There is little, if any, evidence left. Prine knew what his wrongful intentions were the minute he arrived on scene.

Apparently as someone told me (that was not involved in this case) that from being upside down so long ‘pooling of body fluids’ is what it looked like to him…and that is most likely what caused the puffy face.
Believe me, I thought the same thing when I saw his face as you did.

Think about it!!!…hanging like that upside down that long would indeed do that.

I’ll believe the GBI before anyone. I mean if anyone put him in there, the autopsy would have said there was a struggle

A person already dead can’t struggle
