Wilcox County Students Hold First Integrated Prom

More than 50 Wilcox County high school students made history Saturday night with their school’s first student sponsored integrated prom at the Community Clubhouse in Cordele. Organizers had been raising money through Facebook and other sources, and turnout was better than expected.

In the past, students sponsored separate white and black proms, but many students lobbied for a change this year. Amid the controversy, the school chose not to sponsor a prom this year.
